With mid-semester right around the corner, it’s a great time to use this student self-assessment and/or peer assessment strategy to improve meta-cognition and engage students in evaluating their own learning. Reflecting and evaluating their own and each others’ work helps students internalize their learning. This video is from an English instructor, but suggestions can be used in any field or subject.

As a proponent of increasing metacognitive skills in students, I really appreciate the tips here. The comparison to STEM problem solving is apt. And the idea that thinking through one’s work is a process and that process can apply across fields is helpful.
