We have many avenues to learn information, visually, physically, and auditory. Our assignments can be built to accommodate more than just visual and physical learning. Never underestimate the power of a podcast or audio file.
Challenge Yourself: Build a podcast assignment.
First, select a concept from your class that could use a boost. Then, find a podcast that could help students learn more about the concept by googling your concept with the word podcast.
Tip: Take a look at Two Profs in a Pod podcast episodes that GCC’s Beth Eyres and Tenisha Baca have put together over the years.
Once you have a podcast selected, make a discussion question or assignment in Canvas.
For example, if I wanted my students to better understand growth versus fixed mindset, I would find a podcast that speaks to both mindsets and create a discussion in Canvas where students are instructed to listen to the podcast and respond to three reflection questions. Students would also be required to respond to a classmate in order to earn full points.
Alternative Challenge
Can’t find a podcast that meets your needs? Not a problem. Meet a colleague over Zoom based on a topic, create baseline questions or scenarios to review, and record your session. When you record on Zoom you end up with two separate files, one is an audio file and the other is a video file. You can edit the audio file using our Adobe Cloud subscription through the district.
