Should you pop into the CTLE’s Festive Fix-it Sessions this week? Take this quiz to find out!
🎄 QUIZ: Which Holiday Movie Character Are You When It Comes to Course Accessibility? 🎄
1. When you think about accessibility in your Canvas courses, you:
A) Feel like singing loud for all to hear! I’ve been to the workshops, my courses are nearly 100% accessible, and I’m always learning more.
B) Feel pretty good. I’ve made some improvements—added alt text here, fixed some headings there. Still a work in progress!
C) Feel a little behind. I’ve read the emails, and I know it’s important, but I haven’t started yet. Too much on my plate!
2. A student emails asking for accessible course materials. Your reaction is:
A) “Already done! Everything’s ready to go.” chef’s kiss
B) “Give me a day or two to clean up a few things!” rolls up sleeves
C) “Of course! Let me contact the CTLE for help…” frantically Googles ‘what is alt text’
3. Your current accessibility to-do list looks like:
A) Practically complete! Just staying up-to-date with new content and best practices.
B) In progress. I’ve tackled some of it, but there’s more to do when I have time.
C) Long and untouched. I have great intentions and bookmarked resources, but I have yet to dig in.
4. When you hear “Grackle” you think:
A) “Oh yes! That’s the tool for Google Docs accessibility. Already using it!”
B) “I’ve heard of it! Been meaning to try it out.”
C) “That’s… a bird? But also a tool? I should probably learn about this.”
RESULTS:
Mostly A’s: You’re BUDDY THE ELF 🧝 “I’m a course accessibility elf!”
You LOVE accessibility! You’ve attended the workshops, embraced best practices, and your courses sparkle with properly tagged headings, descriptive alt text, and accessible PDFs. You’re spreading accessibility cheer throughout GCC, one structured document at a time. The CTLE sends you holiday cards. Students with screen readers probably want to send you fruit baskets. Keep up the magical work, Buddy!
Mostly B’s: You’re KEVIN McCALLISTER 🏠 “I made my course accessible… sort of… with what I had available…”
You’re resourceful, and you mean well! You’ve dabbled in accessibility—maybe attended a workshop, added alt text to the important images, and you’re aware that color contrast is a thing. You’re like Kevin: clever, scrappy, and doing your best with the tools at hand. But maybe it’s time to call in reinforcements instead of setting up booby traps? The CTLE can help you finish the job when you drop by the CTLE’s Festive Fix-It sessions during finals week!
Mostly C’s: You’re CHARLIE BROWN 🎄 “I got a rock… I mean, I got good intentions…”
Oh, Charlie Brown. You’ve read the emails. You’ve bookmarked the resources. You know accessibility matters, and you genuinely want to make your courses accessible. But life gets busy, the task feels overwhelming, and that sad little accessibility tree in your course just needs some love. Good news: You don’t have to do this alone! Drop by the CTLE’s Festive Fix-It sessions during finals week, and let us help you decorate that tree properly. This might finally be your year, Charlie Brown!
No matter which festive accessibility character you are, we invite you to drop into the CTLE’s Festive Fix-It sessions Monday through Thursday during finals week from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. You can have a cup of cheer (coffee), work on your courses for the spring, and get answers to your accessibility questions (even if that question is, “Why are all these little red dudes hanging out in my Canvas course?”)!
