Glendale Community College (GCC) has exceptionally dedicated and talented adjunct faculty. Each year, Maricopa County Community Colleges recognizes Outstanding Adjunct Faculty from each college. This year, three GCC adjuncts received the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award. We are proud to honor and celebrate Shannon Wallace, Steve Hughes, and James Thomas.
Shannon Wallace is an adjunct faculty member in Fitness & Wellness. Shannon’s nominator stated that “She consistently goes above and beyond for the success of both our program and our students…She brings enthusiasm, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to her peers, her students, and the integrity of our program.”
Steve Hughes is an adjunct faculty member in the Mathematics Department. His nomination shared that “He brings patience, clarity, and encouragement into the classroom, creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their mathematical abilities…His dedication to students, his support of colleagues, and his commitment to the mission of the college embody exactly what this award is meant to honor.”
Dr. James Thomas is an adjunct faculty member in Counseling and Performing Arts. His nomination highlighted, “His teaching reflects a rare integration of artistry, technology, and evidence-based pedagogy…He models instructional excellence in both physical and virtual classrooms, demonstrates unwavering commitment to student engagement and success, and contributes meaningfully to his college and the broader academic community.”
